MIA Conference 2017

As a company, QCONZ is always looking to grow and diversification is key to this growth.

An obvious target for us, given our expertise and core skills, is the red meat sector.

On Sunday 30th July Chris Leach, Justin Moss and Peter Wood travelled down to Dunedin to join approximately 180 delegates at the annual Red Meat Conference. All of the major meat processors were represented at the conference, along with delegates from MPI, the Meat Industry Association, Beef and Lamb and a number of allied service providers.

On Sunday, we attended a cocktail function held at Silver Fern Farms offices. The meet and greet, included presentations by politicians from the major parties and a carcass boning demonstration.

On Monday, we manned a trade stand, demonstrated ‘Bobby Calf Tracker’ (our mobile/web/cloud based digital tracking solution) and discussed QCONZ service offerings with delegates. We were able to develop some promising leads that will be pursued over the short to medium term.

The feedback from our first foray into this sector was that the QCONZ stand looked great and we achieved our aim of raising awareness of QCONZ and the audit, training and IT solutions we can provide. We had a TV on our stand running a video and we had laptops and mobile phones to demonstrate some key products we have on offer. Having a team with industry, technical auditing knowledge and IT savvy provided a good mix of on-stand expertise.

The conference closed with a gala dinner on Monday night. The keynote speaker was (the then) Minister Nathan Guy. It will be of no surprise to hear that steak was on the menu at the dinner and it was magnificent!
