DairyNZ "Go Dairy" Programme
Date: July 2020
Some of you may have seen a familiar face on the evening news on Wednesday. Chris Leach has been contracted to help develop the DairyNZ “Go Dairy” programme. The three week programme has been designed as an introductory course for people looking to change careers and join the Dairy Industry. The overall aim of the MPI/MSD jointly funded programme is to provide potential farm employees with an understanding of what is involved in working and living on a New Zealand Dairy Farm.
Week one is delivered on-line by staff from DairyNZ and provides the attendees with an overview of the industry. Week three focuses on vehicle training covering safe use of quads, two wheelers and side-by-sides. The middle week, largely developed by Chris, is a week of immersive practical training delivered on-farm. The trainees get to pull on a pair of gumboots, handle cows, put up break fences and do some milking.
This week Chris has been piloting the on-farm training here in Hamilton. Once complete, Chris will conduct a review, make any necessary adjustments to the content and deliver on-line ‘train the trainer’ sessions to trainers throughout New Zealand.
DairyNZ, through Dairy Training Limited, have been funded to deliver this training to 500 people and will be looking to us, and our contracted trainers, to deliver the training in the Lower North Island and through-out the South Island. Click the link for full coverage
